My latest quilt was specially made for my beautiful niece and her husband to be.
I wanted something a bit modern but still on the traditional side. I also wanted to incorporate 'Black and White' because of her new husband's lack of color vision. I used blues and teals because I love how they play so nicely with shades of black
.
The pattern I ended up with is a modified 'snowball' block. I made up various sizes of the snowball blocks and played with the placement on the design wall. They needed something so I added the 'plus' and 'X" blocks around the perimeter. Once I had a design I liked I finished the piecing.
I love using a 'Design Wall' to complete my quilts. It makes all the difference in the final outcome. I can play with the blocks all I want until get the effect I am
after. Whether I knew what I wanted or came up with something totally outside my original idea.
I use a piece of cotton batting hung on the wall. The blocks stick nicely and can be moved around as desired. I have 2 different means to hang them. One is a sliding system and the other is blocks that attach to the wall that open to allow the batting to slide in, then close to hold in place. You could do something as simple as a string and clothespins. Very easy and so worth the effort.
There is a lot going on in Katie's Wedding Quilt so the quilting is wavy lines and various designs meant more to blend in to then to show off. There are little saying written in various places to add my blessing and wishes for the years to come.
Every quilt needs it's own name and label. This piece is call '1 + 1'
The wedding invitations were simply beautiful, so the label was made to match.
My hope with this piece is to bring smiles and warmth to the hearts now united in holy matrimony.

that is a beautiful design for a lovely couple. I'm sure they will get many years of cuddling in this quilt.
I hope Katie and Corey think so ...
