Trees in the Forest

Spent the last two nights in Arrowhead Campground at Lake Badin, NC. Beautiful forest with clean and well run facilities. Getting there was a bit of a challenge due to my vow to stay off of dirt roads.

The 'road' was groomed and there were road signs to the different areas of the park, so I took a chance. It paid off. My site was in the trees with no others nearby. Squirrels running up and down the trees, playing and probably working a bit? The crickets at night louder than any generators. And STARS ! plenty of night time activity.

Spent my time wandering the forested lake trails with my four legged companion. My dog is more of a wandering than a walker. Needless to say we took our time and stopping to enjoy the lake views along the way.

We were sitting peacefully on a park bench at the lake when I heard this loud breaking noise. I looked over in the direction it was coming from only to see the huge tree fall slowly into the lake. I have this passion for all green growing things, especially trees. But this one falling was nothing I ever imagined I would see. It was exhilarating !

My picture does not do it justice. But I tried.

Winter and I walked to the site of the fall the next day. Nature is awesome in it's circles.

Now if any one asks me if a trees makes a noise when it falls in the forest .....

makes me remember when Bill and i were biking in New Mexico, we were going up a hill, we stopped and were walking our bikes, another couple walks past ( which was weird because we were out in the mountains no people around) they were about 10 feet past us when we all heard this oud noise, all of as sudden this huge tree falls right between us! We all just looked at the tree then at each other. It was scary and thrilling all at the same time.
