After yesterday's bleak start waking up in the Arkansas country was a blessing. My day was spent leisurely driving to Tennessee. Interstate 40 was pleasant and pretty. Once I hit the border I dropped down to scenic Highway 57. This is what my soul needed. Rolling hills, small towns, creeks and country. I did find it very interesting that all the bridges I crossed were memorials to some person or other. Made me want to know the story behind the names. Also made the countryside feel more like a country united.
I made it to Big Hill Pond SP at midday and set up camp.
There is a BIG hill and beyond open forest with an inviting lake,
dock and canoes ready to explore.
There was a happy couple taking what I
like to believe, where pictures for their
wedding site. And an older couple sitting
on a bench overlooking the view, enjoying
another day of being together on this amazing planet. Or maybe not? But they did look content, so I am sticking with my story.
I spent 2 nights in a beautiful, tree filled campground with the creek making comforting noises below. The campground had one other camper the first night. There were children playing at the parks playground and plenty of people enjoying the lake. There were no hook ups, which I thought was maybe why this pristine acreage was not overflowing with campers. Or it could have been the big hill coming in ?
Anyway the second night there I had to myself!
Which at first sounded like a dream come true but as the darkness ascended I began wondering. ...
It was a beautiful night. I spent some time on the top deck of Beauty watching the pink moon through a thin cloud cover. Then I started hearing a bit too much 'forest' noise and headed in to comfort.
Chicken
I slept in peace and comfort all the night
through. What a wonderful world.
If you are in the area this park is a place of peace and natural beauty.
