Happy happy all,
I have been working on teaching samples the last couple weeks. Easy, but fun quilts to entice new quilters.
The first is a Log Cabin quilt. A basic block with so many options for discovery.
I started with a gorgeous blue and gold print and searched my fabrics to find some complimenting colors. Once colors were chosen the sewing began.
I love using a design wall to build my quilts. Makes it so much easier to see the big picture.
Originally, I was only going to make a throw quilt. After playing with the blocks on the wall I decided to go bigger. I had the fabric, and the quilt was coming together in a timely way, so why not.
I added a slim gold border to add enhance the focus fabric. I normally would go bold and choose a deep blue, but I had a white marbled batik with hints of blue that worked great. This also helped to lighten the design.

The next quilt is what I am calling ‘cut and shuffle’.
I made it with a pack of 10-inch squares I had won. I like to pick my fabrics combinations, but ready made sounded nice and easy. I did add some fabrics to settle the prints a bit. The blue border decided the way the quilt would lean in the color department. The quilt seemed to have a bit of a Japanese flair making a bamboo batik border fit nicely.
The quilt went together easily and very quickly. The key to this block, as most, is the pressing.
Finished top 70 x 80
Hope this post creates some energy and smiles
