First day Quilt Stop

Living in south Florida for years I got spoiled with a wonderful quilt shops; specially StitchCraft, in Boca. An Amazing assortments of fabrics, heavy on the batiks, blenders and Kaffe. But the best part was the ladies that work there. They make you feel like you are entering the 'Cheers' of fabric shops.

There is not a quilt shop near me, so finding a new shop is a little hard. I was very happy to find Viking Sew N Quilt in Mauldin. The store is only about a third the size but boy is is packed with goodies. The ladies there are nice too. Definitely worth the stop

Last post, I mentioned my African wax block quilts; Wild Beauty , finished

This is a collage quilt made with fabrics I spent years collecting. I wanted the fabrics to be the design, so I kept the pieces large. There is a variety of materials of cloth and weave, so the piece is both hand and machine quilted. I am very pleased with the way it all came together.

And Wild Ride, in the process of being quilted

In making Wild Beauty I cut as I thought highlighted each fabric the best, resulting in plenty of leftover pieces. Since the fabrics are all different blends I did not want to throw them in my scrap pile. They may no play nice. So what better way to use than a Log Cabin design. I chose to let the cabins float to add some depth to the piece. So far, so good.

enjoy your adventures
