Today started with coffee parked next to the Ohio River in the quaint little town of Madison IN. What a cool place.
Main Street is lined with old buildings and little historic houses. Some not so little. There are buildings with businesses, like "Plant One on Me" and Victorian homes all dressed up; mixed use buildings with home and business, all on this remarkable walking trail that is Main Street. Folks are sitting outside playing cards, or drinking their morning coffee while watching the town come to life.
And the River, about 3 blocks south, has it's own walking path, complete with strollers and dog walkers sharing the scene with early morning joggers. So hometown. I was tempted to stick around a couple days to see what this town was all about...
... but After a delightful lunch at the Attic Coffee Mill, we were headed west once again. Driving on skinny country roads with a fat van is a bit of work. Watching the small towns and countryside dotted with farms and homesteads, make the efforts enjoyable.
I don't know why but I was surprised to see a 'newish' town with a HUGE factory ( about 1 mile along the road) and lots of new housing options. I don't remember the name or where it was, but it definitely was creating a town.
I also don't know why I found it all a bit sinister?
The farm lands with their fields of green
were simply beautiful. The lands that were cleared, were all farmed and the surrounding areas were filled with hardwood trees. Like they cleared what they needed and let the rest be as nature intended. Again, simply beautiful.
It was an enjoyable drive to Kentucky and the Rough Lake. Where we spent a pleasant evening enjoying the lake view at Cave Creek Campground.
Definitely a spot I would recommend
sounds like a great day! one of these years i would love to go on a trip with you. Also looks like a good place top live. or retire
