Family & Friends * night 8 & 9 * I slept through that !

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

All day driving the plains. Didn't have a destination in mind, just getting closer to green and Home. Maybe out of the wind?

Wild Beauty, likes to cruise at about 65 mph so today I let her. I stopped outside Amarillo and saw 'Cadillac Ranch'. There were visitors with spray paint decorating the caddies

Cool

I made it to a nice rest area near Donley, TX. Inside restrooms a 'Route 66' Museum and a tornado shelter. With all the wind showing off the past 3 days the latter couldn't hurt.

I guess I slept soundly bundled up in my 2 quilts and every piece of cloth I could find, with the dog at my feet for good measure.

Yes, it was cold, again.

I awoke to someone knocking on my window.

Two someones actually. Both Texas Sheriffs.

Apparently the weighted flags that were pounding the flagpole all night disguised the sound of gunshots. After a couple hour delay, I was off in the wind and fog.

I imagined the scenery pretty, trees and lakes and rolling hills, but I really could only see the road in front of me. And an occasional vehicle as it moved passed me.

Growing up on the central coast of California, I am used to the fog rolling in and then out. This fog seemed here to stay.

Hours into Oklahoma the fog dissipated enough to see and it was very pretty. Rolling hills, and pasture lands. Farms with cows, horses goats and lamas. Lots of wind farms, windmills.

I spent the evening at Lake Thunderbird State Park, outside Norman, OK. I was a huge lake, very ethereal and surreal with the coming storm as backdrop.

Once again I slept through the storm, this time just caused by Mother Nature

Off in the morning for another wondrous look at our country via Oklahoma's green pastures and wildflower strewn highways.
