I really want to thank my hosts at Thistle Meadow Winery in Laurel Springs, NC
for the most incredible nights rest.
I slept next to a small creek that wandered over stones making gloriously, peaceful sounds along it's way.
To get to the winery I followed a winding mountain road. Luckily for me, and my slow pace on curvy, up and down, mountain roads there was a line of cars going really slow. I traveled pleasantly along with the group for about 10 miles. I thought it was a little strange how the cars coming in the opposite direction would pull over and let our procession of slow moving vehicles pass before they continued on their own way? Was this another polite greeting in the south I have yet to learn?
Whatever the cause, I was very thrilled not to pull over at every turnout to let others go by.
Like a lot of nice things, they do come to pass. In this case when the state trouper leading the procession pulled in the road, let his funeral procession turn and then turned with them, now bringing up the rear of his respectful group. ...
And wouldn't you know within 2 miles the next pullout came and I let the 'procession' behind me pass. Goodness.
Ended up doing this a couple more times before I reached my turnoff, all in the name of being nice.
It was worth it. Great wines, entertaining company, and a perfect sunset all in the most beautiful spot to overnight.
In the morning, as I was drinking my coffee and enjoying the view of the fog lifting, a deer meandered by giving me the full benefit of a perfectly peaceful stay.
Life is Good!
