Traveling at a slow pace on the lesser highways really gives you a better view than the interstates. Thank goodness we have such a good highway system, but I am wanting another glimpse of the US, of us.
Yesterday I traveled country roads to Elkin, NC where I spent the night at the Visitors Center downtown. There were food trucks and a band on Friday and a great Farmer's Market Saturday morning. Now, South Carolina is known for its peaches, so this is hard to say, but I picked up the sweetest peaches I ever have eaten that morning. Only wish I got more.
I spent 2 nights at the quiet campground of Stony Fork in VA The weather was cool and a bit wet. The days went by quickly, working and exploring. Walks through the forest full of flowers and peeks of stars helped provide the tranquility. Not to mention the wine from Thistle Meadow.
Leaving, I drove through small mountain towns and over mountain passes. I visited New River Gorge National Park in WV. Home of the longest steel arched bridge, spanning one of the oldest rivers in the US. It had just rained and the mist was lifting off the river as Winter and I walked the 187 plus stairs the viewing platform. It was awesome! Looking out at the span as the view cleared. My camera, left behind, could not have captured the essence and spirits floating by.
Made it to Kanawha State Park ,WV.
But just barely! The GPS took me the 'short' route up another 4-Wheel drive trail!
I have to figure a way to add "NO DIRT ROADS" to it's memory.
It is a beautiful, big and well maintained park. I was one of 3 campers. The others were a motorcycle couple. Talk about brave.
The camping was 'rustic'. I opened the shower room door and a bird flew out !! Good thing I was there to let her out. The park really was heavenly. If I could of gotten cell reception, I might still be there.
And as the good continued, there was a paved road that lead me out in the morning.
Some one watching over me :)
your table looks so welcoming and homey.
Gorgeous!
You are getting really good at 4 wheeling, next thing you know it will be your new hobby.
The pictures are good. Was the [place really that beautiful? It looks like a backdrop for a movie.
